The following article was published earlier this month on BostonKAP.com.

Ji Young-sun wraps up her two years of duty as Republic of Korea Consul General in Boston and returns home on May 23.

In her farewell to Boston on the occasion of a special lecture hosted by the National Unification Advisory Council of Boston on May 10, Consul General Ji remarked, "It has been a special pleasure and honor to serve in Boston, a city of education and scholarship, the historical cradle of the Untied States."

She thanked especially the Korean American communities of Boston and New England for their support of her and the work of the Consulate-General over the past two years.

Ms. Ji, who has some 30 years of experience in journalism, is South Korea's first-ever woman Consul General.

With a mix of grace, erudition, and a journalist's instinct, Ji throughout her tour steadfastly represented Korea and Korean art and culture to Bostonians and all over New England.

On issues ranging from examining the history of comfort women to promoting the study of bio-science among the Korean American community, from sponsoring Korean music and film festivals at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts to reaching out to academia all across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and beyond, Consul General Ji brought feminine charm and tireless devotion to her mission of representing Korea.

She left her mark on Korean Americans across the region, serving as a role model for aspiring women of all ages and bringing the Korean American community closer together.

Several leaders within the Korean American community voiced gratitude for her service and regret at her departure, remarking that Ji embodied the Confucian virtues of filial piety, modesty, learning and resilience.

Upon return to Korea, Ji Young-sun will resume her social work with the non-profit Forest of Life, an environmental organization, and Okedongmu, a foundation that aims to build a bridge of friendship and dialogue between the children of South Korea and North Korea.

Ms. Ji also intends to write her memoirs based on her experience as ROK Consul-General in Boston.

Consul General Ji is to be succeeded by Kim Joo Suk, former ROK Ambassador to Pakistan.
