About NAWIHLA:

For hundreds of years, the Abenaki settled in the meadows on both sides of the CT River from Newbury, Vermont, to Haverhill, New Hampshire, where they harvested and traded with other nations.

After the wars, the Abenaki fled the meadows, but their presence is still there.

Many Abenaki families never left the area...they just hid their identity and blended in.

The name "Nawihla" means "I am returning home."

The People of the Koasek Nation are very pleased to invite you to this important place of our people.

Chief Nancy Millette is extremely please to be returing "home " to the place of her birth, as well as the place of her father's birth and many other family members.

" It is exciting to have this celebration with our people, my family and old highschool friends," said Chief Millette.

NAWIHLA!!
