MEN'S HEALTH SUMMIT 2008

DESCRIPTION:
The summit is intended to be a health festival for men and their families filled with engaging and informative activities to present a holistic approach to health, fitness, stress management, access to care, and behavioral health, as well as providing entertainment.

 

FEATURING: expert discussions about men's health and health care, health evaluations, screenings and educational workshops to address the health, wellness, and social concerns of urban men.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Dr. Jean Bonhomme, founder of the National Black Men's Health Network.
Dr Bonhomme has traveled the country, speaking to small church groups and community forums, preaching about the need for men to take control of their health. He has appeared on CNN and was also a speaker at the Massachusetts Medical Society's Fourth Annual symposium on Men's Health in June 2006.

HONOREES:
The Summit will honor five men with the Health Champions Award for their tireless efforts to eliminate health disparities among men:
Gerrold Walker, chair of the Whittier Community Board of Directors;
Jarrett Barrios, president & CEO of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation;
Rev. Gerard Bell of Strong Tower Church, Roxbury;
City Councilor Charles Yancey, and
former State Senator William Owen, director of Health at UMass Boston.
