In partnership with Spanish-language newspaper El Planeta, the Cambridge Center for Adult Education (CCAE) offers this four-day seminar series of panel discussions that will explore life issues faced by Latinos in the U.S.

The conference will specifically address the impact Latino and non–Latino cultures have on each other.

Participants will take part in the four panel discussions, to facilitate conversation and share common experiences.

Gerardo Villacres, director and editor of El Planeta and managing partner of Ultra–Linx Marketing Group LLC, will give the welcoming remarkks.

Villacres is a board member of the CCAE, an overseer of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, a trustee at Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown, Mass., and an advisor to many non–for–profit organizations.

Villacres worked at CBS in New York for 20 years and was manager of the CBS Hispanic Radio Network. He has received international, national and local awards for his work and involvement in the community.

Ilan Stavans will give the keynote address on the last day of the seminar series. Stavans is the Lewis–Sebring professor of Latin American and Latino cultures at Amherst College; editor–in–chief of the four–volume Encyclopedia Latina: History, Culture, and Society in the United States; and author of the Hispanic Condition and Spanglish, among other publications.

Sessions will have three panelists, moderated by Gerardo Villacres and Dr. Luisa Medrano.

On May 8, at 9:30 pm, Jim Smith, CCAE executive director, will give the closing remarks. Seminar-series participants will have the opportunity to share what they learned.

A closing reception will then follow from 10 to 10:30 pm on May 8.
